North Carolina Hits by Irene Hurricane
near Cape Lookout with Category 1-force winds of 85 mph.
Hurricane warnings for the next 48 hours have been issued for North
Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Delaware, New York,
Pennsylvania, New Jersey, coastal Connecticut, Rhode Island and
Massachusetts.
So far, eastern North Carolina has already seen three tornadoes in the
past few days, and the majority of the state and areas of Maryland and
Virginia are under tornado watches through Sunday.
Stacy township, on the coast of North Carolina, is seeing 93 mph wind
gusts this morning.
The far end of the fishing pier in Atlantic Beach, N.C. collapsed
overnight, ABC News affiliate WTVD reported. The 100-foot long pier is
still standing, but its end has disappeared into the ocean.
ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. - The Bogue Banks is under a mandatory
evacuation. All residents are asked to leave.
It's actually pretty quiet in Atlantic Beach today. Yesterday evening
there was a lot of tension in the air as people rushed to make last
minute preparations.
There are not a whole lot of people out and about on the roads. There
is a mandatory evacuation underway for the entire 14 mile strip of the
Bogue Banks including Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores all the way
down to Emerald Isle, but there are a lot of boarded up homes and
quiet streets today.
It seems like almost everyone has already headed out.
One construction crew was out working this morning on what they called
a hurricane proof home. They say the home can withstand 180 mph winds.
They invited us back after the storm to see if the home would make it
through the storm damage free.
Something we should keep in mind is that emergency officials are
discouraging that people stay on the island. They really want everyone
to evacuate inland, but if people do decide to stay, they're staying
at their own risk.
Nearly 200,000 homes in North Carolina are experiencing power outages,
according to Power Energy. Winds up to 85 mph ripped power lines from
their poles, causing many of the shortages. The hardest hit areas were
Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach, N.C.

Artesia home at dawn?
Whether it is street racing with friends or driving under the
influence (DUI), the homeowners well know that their house was broken.
Teen driving at dawn is usual along Los Angeles streets especially
during summer break. Teenagers engage in road race and night partying
that precedes vehicle crashes.
Take the case of Martins' family when a teen driver crashed a stolen
Chevy Tahoe into their Los Angeles home on Tuesday at 2:25 a.m.
According to reports, a young motorist was traveling on 183rd Street
and Clarkdale Avenue intersection when the SUV slammed into the house.
The homeowners were at home, but were not hurt in the accident.
Los Angeles police officers arrested the young boy, but his identity
was not released because he is a minor.
Virgina and Joe Martins, the homeowners, said that their house's fence
has been struck four times, but the front door was struck once. The
couple commented that the property has insurance and they will assert
coverage for the damage. The family has been staying in the house for
40 years.
Building inspectors are assessing the safety of the house.
Because the accused is a teenager, the litigation process for his
robbery and vehicle accident is different than that of adult's. The
court may summon the boy's parents and determine their responsibility
for the accident. The boy may face penalties such as hours of
community service and rehabilitation.
If the insurer is cooperative enough to cover the property damage, the
couple may give a sigh of relief. The boy's parents may also negotiate
with the other party on how to settle the matter.
For more information on SUV accident, you may consult with a personal
injury lawyer in Los Angeles. Your attorney will help you go through
the legal process.
Rear ended by another driver, Res ipsa is your solution
Many of them involve a rear end collision that presumably indicated
liability on the person who hit from behind. But why? Our accident
lawyers can answer your questions.
Drivers may argue that it was the front driver's inattention that lead
him/her to have the accident since the driver in front slammed on the
brakes. Our accident attorney has handle this situation many times
over.
Res ipsa loquitur- a Latin word that means "the thing speaks for
itself." This is an evidentiary rule in torts that the very fact that
an accident occurred is enough to provide a prima facie case of
negligent behavior. Rear ending another vehicle is a perfect example
of showing failure to maintain a safe distance on the part of the
rear-ender, regardless of the conditions.
Many times the insurance company for the rear-ender will argue this
point, but with no success. Our accident lawyer will remain the
insurance company of this rule time and time again.
Our accident attorneys will fight for your rights in court. We have
helped thousands of individuals in Texas when they are injured by a
rear end collision. Insurance companies have their legal team, and so
should you!
